5 defeats in last 6 matches in the I-League campaign clearly shows how poorly the Quess East Bengal FC team has been playing recently. Also, to add to the frustrations of the fans, the team is endangered of relegation, currently sitting on 10th place in the league table as they prepare to face an upbeat Punjab FC tomorrow at the Kalyani Stadium in the return leg clash!
The Red and Gold brigade are low on morale and with too many unwanted controversies hovering over the team management, coach Mario Rivera will have a tough task motivating his boys to turn it around against the Punjab FC side who have been playing good attacking football, led by the prolific Dipanda Dicka who is leading the top scoring charts with 8 goals in the campaign already.
The saga with Spanish defender Marti Crespí has been in the news recently and to replace him, former defender Johnny Acosta has confirmed himself that he will be arriving soon. Against Punjab FC, forward Marcos de la Espada will also be available for selection after being suspended for a Red card against Aizawl FC.
The team has been lacking goals upfront and newly signed striker Ansumana Kromah is yet to find the back of the net in 3 appearances so far. Attacking midfielder Jaime Santos Colado is also under scanner for a series of poor performances in the I-League. The 25 year old Spaniard is yet to score from an open play in the I-League with all 3 of his goals coming in as penalties.
Coach Mario Rivera will be looking to get his first win as the Red and Gold head coach tomorrow and get the team out of the relegation zone. It will surely need some mammoth task to turn around the fortunes of the team and get back to winning ways and put some smile on the faces of millions of fans who expected much better from the team in the centenary season.
