Indian Super League dreams are almost becoming a reality for the Red and Gold fans. The bid to participate in the 2020/21 season has been opened by FSDL and East Bengal FC has picked up the bid papers. With the official announcement could be happening sooner than ever, the focus is moving on towards the transfer market once again as quite a few “top” names are getting linked with East Bengal FC as the team management look forward to get in 7 foreigners to complete their squad for the season.

Iranian winger Omid Singh was precontracted but never officially announced and hence we will keep his singing as not yet done and talk about all the rest players who are being linked with the Red and Gold brigade.

1. Ibrahim Affelay

The former FC Barcelona, FC Schalke, Stoke City and PSV Eindhoven attacking midfielder who was part of the 2010 World Cup runner’s up Dutch squad and a Champions League winner with FC Barcelona in 2011, is linked for a move to India at East Bengal FC.

The 34 year old was playing in the Dutch Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven but was unable to get playing time and is currently without a club. He took on a central midfield role after suffering two injuries during his stint at Stoke City. The Dutchman would surely be a marquee singing if he indeed comes down to India to play in the ISL.

2. Papiss Cissé

The former Newcastle United forward, remembered widely for the iconic goal of the season strike against Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge in 2012, who was recently currently playing in the Turkish Super League for Alanyaspor FC is also rumoured to be linked with a move to East Bengal FC.

Cissé, 35 now, still is a dangerous player upfront with 42 goals in last two seasons in the Turkish Super League, including being the second top scorer with 22 goals in 2019/20 season. He too would qualify as a Marquee signing if he chooses to come to India.

3. Michael Olunga

The 26 year old Kenyan centre forward who is the reigning top scorer of J1 League with 14 goals in 13 matches for the Kashiwa Reysol is also linked strongly for a move to the Indian Super League with East Bengal FC.

The Kenyan forward also played in the La Liga with Girona FC in 2018 scoring 3 goals in 14 appearances. He has been taking the J League by a storm with his scoring abilities and he would certainly be one of the top names to join Indian Super League if the transfer actually happens.

4. Ayoub El Kaabi

The Moroccan national team forward, who was part of the 2018 World Cup team is also linked with East Bengal FC for a move to the Indian Super League.

The 27 year old Moroccan has played in the Chinese Super League with Hebei CF and the Moroccan League with Wydad Casablanca. He too is among the goals with 8 goals in 13 apps last season for the Moroccan Champions.

5. Javier Espinosa

The former FC Barcelona B and Villareal CF attacking midfielder, who was last playing at FC Twente in the Dutch Eredivisie is also linked with a move to East Bengal FC.

The 27 year old attacking midfielder is currently without a club and is heavily linked with a move to East Bengal FC.

6. Vladimir Granat

The 33 year old Russian centre back who was part of the 2018 World Cup team is also linked with a move to East Bengal FC for the Indian Super League.

The left footed centre back who can also play as a left back is currently without a club. He last played for the Russian Premier League side Rubin Kazan.

7. Tolgay Arslan

The 30 year old German-Turkish box to box midfielder who was last playing for the Turkish Super League side Fenerbahce SK is linked with a move to the Red and Gold brigade.

The former Hamburg SV and Besiktas midfielder is currently without a club and is attracting quite a few suitors, among which East Bengal FC is one of the names as well as Turkish giants Galatasaray.

8. Kenny Otigba

The 28 year old Hungarian centre back who has played in the Dutch Eredivisie and Turkish Super League is also linked with a move to East Bengal FC for the Indian Super League.

The Nigerian born Hungary international, who last played for Ferencvárosi TC in the Hungarian top division is currently without a club and is rumoured to be in contention to move to East Bengal FC for the Indian Super League campaign.

The Indian Super League certainly is an attractive brand with some top names already playing in the competition. East Bengal FC too will have to bring in some top names to be able to fight for their place alongside the big names.

The names above mentioned are all just rumoured and none of them are yet confirmed for a move. The East Bengal FC team management would certainly be keeping their eyes open for all possible transfer options with the salary cap in mind as they build the squad for the 2020/21 Indian Super League campaign.
