East Bengal FC team management are certainly running against time to revamp their squad as they prepare for their inaugural entry in to the Indian Super League. The official announcement is due in couple of days time and the team management is certainly trying their best to build a squad capable of fighting against the big guns in the ISL. As per latest rumours, the club is all set to rope in former custodian Debjit Majumdar as the senior most goalkeeper in the squad.
The team management had already signed Sankar Roy and Rafique Ali Sardar previously and retained Mirshad for the season. However, none of them have the proper experience in ISL and hence the wish to sign Debjit Majumdar. The 32 year old is a former I-League and ISL Champion winning the best goalkeeper award in 2014-15 season. He has also played in the ISL for for Mumbai City FC other than ATK.
Last season, he was loaned to Mohun Bagan from ATK and was part of the title winning squad. Although he started the season as the first choice, he was tipped off by Sankar Roy as the first choice goalkeeper in the later half of the season. Although the deal is not completed yet, but the idea of having both Debjit and Sankar likely in the squad along with two more promising goalkeepers, the East Bengal FC final line looks to be a well mixture of youth and experience. With healthy competition among the names, the team can certainly reap benifit.
