The decision has finally been taken and Sunday’s big Kolkata Derby is going to take place behind closed doors in an empty Salt Lake Stadium.
The East Bengal Club Officials were not ready to play the derby without fans being present but on Friday evening the AIFF I-League committee and representatives of both the clubs met in a conference and finally the East Bengal officials stepped back from their demands and the game on Sunday will take place as it was scheduled, just with no fans being allowed.
This will be the first time in the 99 years history of Kolkata Derby that the game will be played without any fans being present. COVID-19 has already been declared a pandemic by the WHO and the Indian ministry has ordered all sporting activities until 15th April to be played behind closed doors.
