Finally something for the East Bengal fans to cheer as the Red and Gold brigade picked up their first win of the I-League campaign as they defeated NEROCA FC by 4-1 away at the Khuman Lampak Stadium at Imphal.
This was the 3rd game in 6 days, in 3 different cities for Coach Alejandro’s side, however, not for one moment the team showed signs of fatigue as the team pressed onto the opponent’s half from the first minute.
Spanish winger Juan Mera was again the centre of attraction as he tried to cut in inside the box but was fouled and his compatriot Jaime Santos Colado made no mistake to score from the spot to give Quess East Bengal FC a 1-0 lead away from home.
The home side did come back into the game as Baubacar Diarra equalised just 5 mins later from a deflected cross as Marti Crespí and Goalkeeper Ralte failed to mark the man.
The Red and Gold brigade however pressed high again and Juan Mera scored a postage stamp free kick to take back the lead in the 33rd minute.
The game went into the second half and NEROCA FC made another blunder as their defence handled the ball inside the box when Marcos Espada tried to head and referee had no option but to allot East Bengal the second penalty of the game. Jaime Santos Colado did déjà-vu of the previous penalty and East Bengal tool a lead of 1-3 inside 50th minute.
NEROCA FC looked all over the place as Quess East Bengal further increased their lead when Pintu Mahata sent in an inch perfect cross for Marcos Espada who headed home his 2nd goal in 3 I-League appearance to make it 1-4 for the visiting side.
With this win, Quess East Bengal FC now has 5 points from 3 games, sitting on the 3rd place in the League Table. They face TRAU FC at Kalyani next on Saturday, 14th December.
