It’s official now, Indian national team forward Jeje Lalpekhlua has signed for the Red and Gold brigade for the upcoming season as East Bengal FC prepare to enrich their squad for the Indian Super League campaign.
The 29-year-old Mizo forward had left Chennayin FC after spending 6 years with the two time ISL champions, scoring 25 goals in 79 appearances for them. The national team forward suffered a setback last season with a knee injury which forced him to have it operated and sit out for the entire season.
Jeje has finally recovered from his injury and has been training at his native place back in Mizoram. He didn’t extend his contract with the Chennaiyin FC and choose to have a fresh challenge and joined East Bengal FC, where he will also have the captain’s armband.
Jeje will also have his former teammates – Balwant Singh and CK Vineeth in the squad alongside him as East Bengal FC have now roped in a strong Indian forward line, at least on paper. The team building is still ongoing with foreign recruits and a few more Indian players are rumoured to be joining the squad.
