As we had reported earlier, it’s now confirmed, East Bengal FC have roped in former player Mohammed Rafique from Mumbai City FC for the upcoming season.
Mohammed Rafique had joined East Bengal in 2014 from United SC and played till 2018 before leaving for Indian Super League side Mumbai City FC, where he made 18 appearances in total, including 6 appearances in 2019/20 season, after returning from an injury he suffered early in the season. Rafique earned back his position in the starting eleven and got 5 starts in the decisive end of the ISL last season where Mumbai misses the playoffs by whiskers!
The 29 year old utility player can play in many positions and would certainly be a handy option to have for the team. In the 2019/20 season he started as the right back for Mumbai City FC in the later games while his primary position is of central midfield. He also used to play as a forward earlier in his career when he joined East Bengal in 2014 from United SC.
The club has also retained goalkeeper Mirshad Michu for the upcoming season.
