The big Kolkata Derby is next as Quess East Bengal FC will be taking on arch-rivals Mohun Bagan in the first I-League Derby of the season on Sunday at the Salt Lake Stadium.

Quess East Bengal FC will be looking to bounce back from the consecutive defeats to Churchill Brothers and Gokulam Kerala FC.

Let us see how the team can lineup on Sunday against Mohun Bagan:

Goalkeeper:

Lalthuammawia Ralte has failed to keep a cleansheet in any of the 6 matches so far in the I-League campaign and after his poor performance against Gokulam Kerala on Wednesday, it is highly likely that Mirshad might start under the crossbar on Sunday.

Mirshad had a brilliant outing in the Durand Cup Semi Final against Gokulam Kerala but has been warming the bench ever since. It is high time he gets a chance now and prove his worth.

Defence:

The defence was in disarray against Gokulam Kerala as individual mistakes cost the team 3 goals. Alejandro Menendez has shuffled the defence 5 times in 6 matches so far yet failed to find a solution to the leakage of goals in every game.

Mehtab Singh is likely to replace Asheer Akhtar to pair with Marti Crespí in the centre-back position. Kamalpreet Singh will start again as Samad Ali Mallick is injured and it can be the new recruit Abhash Thapa in place of Abhishek Ambekar as the left back.

Midfield:

The Red and Gold faithful can be a a bit less worried with the fact that Kassim Aidara looked good in the central midfield against Gokulam Kerala FC on Wednesday. He would play a pivotal role against the fierce Mohun Bagan midfield consisting of Beitia and Fran Gonzalez.

To partner Kassim, Alejandro would surely choose the experienced Lalrindika Ralte. His expertise in switching the play and in set pieces can be vital for the Red and Gold midfield in the Derby.

There might be a change in shape in the attacking midfield position with formation changing from 4-2-3-1 to 4-4-1-1, with Jaime Colado and Juan Mera in the two flanks. Pintu Mahata looked all over the place against Gokulam Kerala and would likely be on the bench on Sunday.

Forward:

Marcos de la Espada has failed to score in back to back matches as the team suffered defeats. He will be under huge pressure on Sunday in the big Derby.

To partner Marcos, coach Alejandro Menendez might start with Ronaldo Oliveira in a two man forward line with Marcos playing a little deep in the 4-4-1-1 formation. Ronaldo Oliveira can make runs behind the defence while Marcos can play between the lines.

This won’t be the first time Marcos and Ronaldo start in a Derby; the duo started in the CFL Derby back in September which ended in a 0-0 draw.

Formation: 4-4-1-1
