Quess East Bengal FC registered their second win in the Hero I-League campaign as Spanish defender Marti Crespí scored a late winner in the 89th minute to grab home all 3 points from Kalyani Stadium.
The game wasn’t easy as predicted and the Red and Gold brigade very clearly missed the service of Jaime Santos Colado in the attack as Juan Mera was often found getting marked by the TRAU defence.
Still trying to get control over the game, Alejandro Menendez’s boys did pilled up initial pressure and Marcos de la Espada put the home side ahead in the 17th minute as he headed home from a beautiful cross from Samad Ali Mallick.
Marcos got another opportunity to increase the lead however his shot was cleared of the line by the TRAU defence.
TRAU FC slowly got back into the game and against the run of play scored an equaliser in the 42nd minute to make it 1-1, as teams went into half time.
The second half started like the first as Quess East Bengal FC went all out for the winner. Alejandro Menendez introduced Bidyashagar Singh and Abhijit Sarkar for attacking treats still they couldn’t break open the TRAU defence until in the dying moments, as Marti Crespí tapped home the winner after the ball was flicked to him by Marcos Espada, to make it 2-1 for the home side and ensuring all 3 points.
Coach Alejandro Menendez will be happy with the win as this was the 4th game in 11 days for the Red and Gold brigade. They have however, failed to keep a cleansheet in any of the matches which will be a concern as Quess East Bengal FC will now prepare for the all important Kolkata Derby on 22nd December at the Salt Lake Stadium.
