Quess East Bengal FC failed to get back to winning ways once again as they shared points with Punjab FC after a heavily fought game ended in a 1-1 stalemate at the Kalyani Stadium today.
Coach Mario Rivera fielded a team without Juan Mera who had a light niggle. Ansumana Kromah and Marcos de la Espada lead the lines with Brandon, Colado, Kassim and Kamalpreet holding the midfield positions in front of an all Indian defence line.
The game started in the best possible way as a wonder striker from Liberian striker Ansumana Kromah in the 12th minute put Quess East Bengal FC ahead. The goal came in as a breathe of fresh air as the Red and Gold brigade scored after a gap of two matches.
Punjab FC got back into the game after going behind and made few attempts on the Quess East Bengal FC goal which was kept out by custodian Mirshad, until in the 42nd minute when Girik Khosla made a lounging attempt to a beautifully kept ball from Gabriel which was met perfectly by Girik and found the back of the net as the visitors equalised before going into the break.
The second half saw the same story with both teams trying to get the winner but none of the could break the deadlock. Ansumana Kromah got the easiest chance of the day as he left Punjab goalkeeper Kiran Limbu on the ground, dribbling past him but hit the ball onto Nirmal Chhetri’s legs who made a last ditch effort on the goal line.
The match became open in the second half, as coach Mario introduced Juan Mera in the last 20 minutes but he too couldn’t change the fortunes as the game ended in a stalemate and Mario Rivera got his first points under his bag as the coach of Quess East Bengal FC.
With this draw, the Red and Gold brigade will jump out of the relegation zone for now into the 9th place ahead of NEROCA FC as they look forward to face Indian Arrows away on 17th February at the Cooperage Stadium in Mumbai.
