With the imminent announcement for the entry into the Indian Super League 2020/21 season for East Bengal FC soon to happen, the search for a new head coach is already making headlines with some top names like Jose Pekerman, Bert van Marwijk already being linked. But the name which is most strongly talked about is former Real Betis Serbian midfielder Risto Vidakovic.
The Serbian coach previously led Philippines Super League team Ceres Negros to three back to back Championships – 2017, 2018, 2019 and a Philippines Cup in 2019. He also took the team to Asian glory with two back to back AFC Cup Inter Zonal Finals, winning it in 2017 to reach Inter Zone Playoff Semi Final and even defeated A League team Brisbane Roar in the AFC Champions League preliminary round to make history with Ceres Negros, as the first Philippines team to the reach the AFC Champions League Playoff round.
The Serbian coach also led the Philippines club to a AFC Ranking of 23 (March 2020), higher above top teams like Shandong Luneng (24), Buriram United (25), Pakhtakor (31) and Johor Darul Ta’zim (35).
The Serbian coach terminated his contract after 3 and half seasons with the club and now is heavily linked with East Bengal FC to take over as the head coach in the Indian Super League campaign. However, the news is just a rumour as of now and the final decision is yet to be taken by the team management who are expected to make announcements after the official declaration of the participation into the Indian Super League.
