Finally the southern wind brings in a breathe of fresh air for the Red and Gold fans as Quess East Bengal FC have won against Chennai City FC by 2-0 at the Nehru Stadium today.

Coming in with three consecutive defeats on the cards and head coach Alejandro Menendez stepping down, makeshift coach Bastob Roy had a daunting task on his hands to get his team back to winning ways. He kept newly signed Ansumana Kromah on the bench as the Red and Gold brigade took on the field.

The game could have been 0-3 in the first half itself, if not for some unbelievable missed from the Quess East Bengal FC team. Jaime Santos had a poorly taken penalty saved by Santana followed by two one-on-one misses by Brandon and Jaime Santos once again, as the half ended goalless.

The team were looking out of ideas in the second half, with Brandon once again coming close to break the deadlock but his shot hit the post and the rebound was wasted by Didika.

It was then Bastob Roy introduced the Liberian striker Ansumana Kromah in place of Brandon, and he could have had a goal on the first touch itself. He was brought down by the opponent custodian but ref didn’t pay heed to the appeals.

It was just moments later that the Red and Gold brigade finally broke the deadlock with Jaime Santos running down the right flank, put in an inch perfect cross for Marcos de la Espada to tap in and make it 0-1 in the 68th minute.

Jaime Colado was once again in the thick of action as he was brought down inside the box and ref awarded the second penalty of the game to Quess East Bengal FC. Jaime Santos made no mistake this time and made in 0-2 in the 77th minute to secure a win after 3 consecutive defeats.

The team management will be also happy on the fact that the all Indian defence line, in the absence of Marti Crespí, held their ground well and got their first cleansheet of the I-League campaign. Mirshad started under the bar for the first time in the I-League and made two crucial saves in the second half to ensure all 3 points from Coimbatore.
