I-League: It’s a battle for survival for Alejandro Menendez in the Derby!

Quess East Bengal FC are all set to take on their arch-rivals Mohun Bagan in the big Derby tomorrow at the Salt Lake Stadium in the Hero I-League clash to keep their hopes still alive for the title hunt.
Coming in with consecutive defeats against Churchill Brothers and Gokulam Kerala FC, it’s a battle to keep the race for the title alive for coach Alejandro Menendez and his boys against Mohun Bagan on Sunday.
The focus will be on both the attack and defence for the Red and Gold think-tank as they have both failed to score goals and has been leaking goals in every match.
There will be changes expected in the starting lineup with Mehtab Singh to return for sure, as his absence was felt heavily against Gokulam Kerala FC on Wednesday at the Kalyani Stadium. New signing Abhash Thapa could also start in place of not-in-form Abhishek Ambekar as the left back, whose defensive lapse cost the first goal against Gokulam Kerala.
Also, Pintu Mahata has been dissapointing so far and Alejandro Menendez would like to change the shape upfront. New signing Edmund Lalrindika might get his debut in the Derby or we might expect Ronaldo Oliveira to partner Marcos de la Espada to lead the lines.
It is make-or-break for Alejandro Menendez as he has no option other than going for the win against Mohun Bagan on Sunday. He too is under the scrutiny of the fans and a bad result could make things worse for Alejandro Menendez at Quess East Bengal FC.
Mohun Bagan team has been in-form and high on confidence even after a draw against Punjab FC with a late equaliser. They sit on top of the league for the moment and will start the Derby as favourites; but as all veterans of the Kolkata Derby always says, “You can never predict a Derby, it’s always who wants it the most on that day.”
