The I-League committee has sent their recommendations to the AIFF executive committee after a meeting today and has decided to declare Mohun Bagan as the I-League champions and cancel the remaining matches of the league and conclude the season.
The committee has taken quite a few decisions due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown which has forced all sporting activities to be suspended indefinitely. They have recommended that Mohun Bagan is to be given the 1 Cr prize money for being the Champions and the rest 1.25 Cr prize money is to be distributed among the rest of the teams and no team will be relegated.
For the 2nd div I-League, the committee has decided to wait for approval over regulatory matters from the AIFF executive committee and AFC and look for possible options if they can conclude it next season in a shorter format.
All other age group tournaments are also suspended and the committee has decided they would conclude the season and start afresh from the 2020/21 season.
Also understanding the current crisis, the Committee felt it needed to be flexible as per AIFF Academy Accreditation is concerned — as the primary objective is to increase participation of clubs and players. Hence, the Committee recommended for an extension of the deadline for submission of the requisite documentation after the ongoing lockdown is revoked.
