The Quess East Bengal FC U18 team has set the mood straight for the Hero Elite League U18 campaign as they started off with a win against their arch-rivals Mohun Bagan on Saturday at the East Bengal Ground.

Coach Ranjan Choudhury’s boys had been preparing and participated in few preseason tournaments before the start of the U18 I-League campaign.

Manipuri forward Manichand Singh put the Red and Gold brigade ahead in the 28th minute as he tapped home a beautiful ball from Bikash Singh from the left. The goal came after a series of attacks on the Bagan defence. However, the team couldn’t increase the lead as the teams went into halftime at 1-0 for Quess East Bengal U18.

In the second half, Mohun Bagan scored the equaliser against the run of play in the 66th minute. However, the Red and Gold brigade kept pushing for the win and it was number 10, Srikumar Karjee – the captain who headed home the winner from a set piece delivery from Sougata Hansda in the 88th minute to secure all 3 points from the first game of the campaign.

This win will surely lay the foundation for the campaign as Ranjan Choudhury’s boys will look to qualify the Kolkata Zonal Round. Only two teams among the 8 from the Kolkata Zonal Group will qualify for the Final Round.

Quess East Bengal FC U18 will face ATK in their next match at the Aditya School of Sports Ground on 6th January.
