The U18 boys are determined to qualify from the tough Kolkata Zonal group and have now made it 5 wins in a row today as they won against Baranagar SC in the Hero Elite League game at the East Bengal Ground.
Coach Ranjan Chowdhury fielded a strong eleven against the Baranagar SC side who are 4th in e table. The Red and Gold brigade started positively and it was the centre back Ranjit Oraw, who got a India U19 callup few months back, who broke the deadlock as he headed home from a beautifully taken corner by Salam Johnson in the 31st minute to make it 1-0.
The Quess East Bengal FC U18 boys increased their lead just 4 minutes later as it was centre back Ranjit Oraw once again, who found his head to a perfect delivery from Bikash Singh to make it 2-0 in the 35th minute.
After the break, Bikash Singh had to be substituted after picking up a knock but the Red and Gold brigade went further ahead as in-form striker Manichand Singh scored his 5th goal of the campaign to make it 3-0 in the 53rd minute.
There are few more attacks from the East Bengal team but the scoreline remained same as the referee blew the full time whistle, ensuring 5 consecutive victories for coach Ranjan Chowdhury’s boys.
This win means the Red and Gold brigade are 8 points ahead of 3rd place United SC (10 points from 7) with 18 points from 7 matches and level on points with ATK U18 who obviously have a better goal difference and also a match in hand!
The first leg ended well for coach Ranjan Chowdhury’s boys and they will look ahead to secure the qualification for the Final Round of the Hero Elite League, with just 2 teams out of 8 proceeding from the Kolkata Zonal Group.
The Quess East Bengal FC U18 team will face arch-rivals Mohun Bagan U18 next on 5th February at the Mohun Bagan Ground for the return leg fixture. They had won the home fixture by 2-1 with goals from Srikumar Karjee and Manichand Singh.
