We have already confirmed yesterday about East Bengal FC retaining Brandon Vanlalremdika for the upcoming season. Now as per sources, we can confirm that the club is all set to retain three more names as – Samad Ali Mallick, Asheer Akhtar and Pintu Mahata.
Since, Quess Corp. are leaving East Bengal FC, all the pre-existing contracts are being mutually terminated by Quess East Bengal FC as the entity won’t cease to exist after 31st May. East Bengal FC had to renegotiate with all the players even of they had long contracts with the club to sign once again on new contracts. Till now the club has only officially announced the name of Mirshad Michu while Brandon Vanlalremdika is also confirmed unofficially.
Let us see how the three names performed last season:
Samad Ali Mallick has been a veteran already in Red and Gold colours as he has been a part of the team since the 2015/16 season, already spending 5 seasons with the club. The 25 year old had his breakthrough season in 2018/19 when under Alejandro Menendez he became a potent threat from the right wingback position, with his curling crosses that led to many goals for the team.
In 2019/20 however, Samad had an early setback due to an injury he suffered and his performances did fall from what was expected from him. He made 12 appearances in the I-League, playing a whopping 950 minutes and registering 2 assists in the campaign.
Asheer Akhtar joined East Bengal FC from the Bengaluru FC B team and did impress the fans for his composure and abilities as a ball playing centre-back. In the later stages of the I-League under Mario Rivera, Asheer and Mehtab Singh formed a nice partnership and helped East Bengal FC reach the second spot in the league table.
The 25 year old made 11 appearances in the 2019/20 I-League and had also scored a goal against Indian Arrows away at Mumbai.
One of the most talked about transfer last season was the 22 year old young sensation Pintu Mahata who switched colours to join East Bengal FC from rivals Mohun Bagan.
Pintu Mahata even though started promisingly in the Calcutta Football League and Durand Cup, however, never failed to live up to his expectations and fell down among the ranks and got just 7 appearances in the I-League, playing 425 minutes overall and registering just a single assist in a 4-1 away victory against TRAU FC.
East Bengal FC have already roped in 23 players officially and these few names who are being retained would face stiff competitions to earn a place in the starting eleven. The club is also having talks with left back Abhishek Ambekar to re-sign him for the upcoming season however it isn’t finalised as of yet.
