Last Updated 2:07 PM 18th May 2020 .
East Bengal FC team management has already roped in more than a handful of new signings for the upcoming season and also officially announced the retaining of goalkeeper Mirshad Michu.
As we are all aware that Quess East Bengal FC will cease to exist post 31 May 2020 and they have mutually terminated the contacts of all the players who were part of the team last season. So, East Bengal FC officials are having to talk freshly with all the players who were part of the team last season and renegotiate terms, even if they had multiple year contracts with the team.
As per our sources, till now the East Bengal FC officials have managed to convince and retain 4 Indian players from the last season’s squad. They have also been talking with few more players from last season’s squad and trying to convince them to sign for the upcoming season. The list is:
The 26 year old goalkeeper from Kerala is the first name on the list of players to be retained and is officially declared.
Mirshad had joined East Bengal FC back in 2017/18 season and has been in-and-out of the first team for his inconsistent performances. He made 9 appearances, with 7 in the I-League and made a total of 3 cleansheets.
The officially declared captain of last season and fan favourite “Spiderman“, Brandon Vanlalremdika is all set to be retained by the East Bengal FC team management.
Brandon has accepted the terms and shall continue to play for the Red and Gold brigade. He joined East Bengal in 2017/18 from Aizawl FC and has been a decent performer throughout. Brandon made 24 appearances last season with 16 starts in all competitions. He even scored a goal in the I-League against TRAU FC.
The 26 year Mizo has made 69 appearances for East Bengal FC till date scoring 6 goals till date.
Samad Ali Mallick
The 25 year old right-back from Bengal who joined East Bengal FC back in 2015-16 season is all set to be retained by the team management.
Samad Ali Mallick would be the longest serving player among the current squad for East Bengal FC. He made 21 appearances in the 2019/20 season with 12 in the I-League, making quite a few assists. He also scored a goal against Gokulam Kerala FC in the Durand Cup Semi Final last season.
Samad’s inclusion would now make East Bengal FC spoilt for choices in the right-back with already likes of Chullova and Irshad roped in.
The 25 year old defender who joined the Red and Gold brigade last season from Bengaluru FC reserves is the fourth name on the list of players who are all set to retained by the team management.
Asheer Akhtar has been impressive in his first season for the Red and Gold brigade making 18 appearances in all competitions. His inclusion would provide an option for the team management in the centre-back position.
Players who are still being negotiated with:
The leftback from Mumbai joined East Bengal FC in 2019/20 season from Mohun Bagan. The club management is talking with the player to confirm his services for the upcoming season. However, negotiation is still on for Ambekar, who made 19 appearances for East Bengal FC in all competitions.
The academy graduate who was promoted to the senior team in 2018/19 season and made quite a few appearances in the I-League, hardly featured in the 2019/20 season. The club management however is still negotiating with the player and is hopeful to retain him for the upcoming season.
There are few more names who are currently in talks with the club however those are still in initial stages and we shall update when there will be confirmation available.
