The 2020 AFC-U16 Championship is all set to commence in Bahrain later in 2020 and draws for the Groups were held earlier today at the AFC House, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The 16 teams who have qualified were drawn into four groups and India have found themselves in a tough group C alongside heavyweights South Korea, Australia and Uzbekistan.
India had qualified for the U16 AFC Cup quite handsomely, topping their qualification group round held at Uzbekistan. India had defeated Bahrain and Turkmenistan by 5-0 each and drew the last game with hosts Uzbekistan 1-1 to finish top of the group and qualify directly.
In the 2017 U16 AFC Cup, India were eliminated in the Quarterfinal by South Korea as the Asian heavyweights found a last minute winner in a heavily contested match. Indian U16 team is once again hopeful of qualifying for the knockout stages but they are placed in a tough group alongside South Korea, Australia and Uzbekistan.
The tournament is set to take place between 16 September and 3 October, 2020 in Bahrain.
