5 Talking Points: Churchill Brothers 1-0 Quess East Bengal
Last Updated 9:52 PM 6th January 2020 .
Quess East Bengal FC suffered their first defeat of the 2019-20 I-League campaign against Churchill Brothers away at Fatorda Stadium on Saturday.
Let us look at the 5 talking points from the game:
1. Lack of Finishing
The Red and Gold brigade created numerous chances in the match but failed to find the goalmouth.
Abhijit Sarkar, Juan Mera, Lalrindika Ralte, Marcos Espada, Jaime Colado all squandered golden chances throughout the game as they repent 3 points dropped for the late goal they conceded.
Striking line has been underperforming since the start of the season and the game against Churchill Brothers exposed the lack of finishing threat for the Red and Gold brigade once more!
2. No Cleansheet in 5 matches
Coach Alejandro Menendez will surely be in disarray with his defence lineup as they failed to keep a cleansheet once again, letting in Willis Plaza to score at the dying moments and take away all 3 points!
The Red and Gold brigade had 4 different defensive back four lineups in the 5 matches they played, which clearly indicates the problem they are having at the back.
3. Kassim Aidara’s poor form
One man who was monumental for the run Quess East Bengal FC had in the I-League campaign last season was the Senegalese/German Kassim Aidara.
His physical presence as a destroyer was an important aspect of Coach Alejandro Menendez’s side.
This season, Aidara looks very far from what his best and is clearly affecting the performance of the Red and Gold brigade. He has also picked up 3 yellow cards in 5 matches and will be suspended if he gets another!
4. Over dependency on Juan Mera – Jaime Colado
The Spanish Midfield duo Juan Mera and Jaime Santos Colado are the main attacking threat Quess East Bengal FC possess but the entire team falters if they have an off game!
The team lacks leaders on the pitch to step up and perform when the duo is tactically marked and taken away from the game.
The overdependence on these two Spanish midfielders is surely a concern for the East Bengal fans!
5. No magic from Reserve Bench
With Samad Ali Mallick and Pintu Mahata unavailable for the game, Coach Alejandro Menendez had his options cut-off from the substitute bench.
Quess East Bengal FC put on Brandon in place of Abhijit Sarkar, and Tondomba Naorem replaced Didika Ralte who was injured in the last 20 minutes, but neither could conjure any magic and make a heavy impact on the game!
Ronaldo Oliveira was put in after the goal was conceded in the dying minutes but he hardly touched the ball!
Quess East Bengal FC will face Gokulam Kerala next at home on 15th January, which has now become a must win affair to stay in the title hunt!
With January transfer window already open, Quess East Bengal FC management should look to strengthen the squad which surely looks out of depths due to numerous injuries and unavaibilities!
