The first I-League Kolkata Derby is just around the corner with both teams recovering from a disappointing start to the campaign to slowly getting back to form.
Quess East Bengal FC will have a 7 day gap to recover from the hectic schedule they started their campaign with before they face their arch rivals on 22nd December at the Salt Lake Stadium.
Let us check out five vital members of the Mohun Bagan team, who can be decisive in the Derby:
Midfield: Joseba Beitia
One man who is the fulcrum of the Mohun Bagan team is without doubt the Spanish number 10 Joseba Beitia.
The entire Bagan midfield depends on Beitia to play is slick passing game. He builds the attacks and often tries to release the forwards with precise through balls.
His expertise in set pieces too will be a thing to look out for, as majority of Bagan’s goals have come from Beitia’s set piece routines.
Defensive Midfield: Fran Gonzalez
If Beitia is the creative force of the Bagan midfield then another Spanish import, Fran Gonzalez is the workhorse of the Bagan’s strength, their midfield.
Fran Gonzalez is a typical number 6 who is physicality strong, likes to dominate the opponents and also can score in occasional goals.
He did score 2 against TRAU FC as the Green and Maroon’s won 4-0 at the Kalyani Stadium.
Wing: Julen Colinas
Coach Kibu Vicuña’s Mohun Bagan is extremely dependent on the foreign imports and winger Julen Colinas is another vital part of Bagan’s attack.
Colinas is fast and likes to play through the channels and his understanding with Beitia is a major look out for teams trying to defend against them.
Forward: VP Suhair
The ex East Bengal forward VP Suhair has been the main attacking threat for Bagan as Salva Chamorro has been released after failing to live upto expectations.
VP Suhair does carry a goal scoring knack and is often found at the end of crosses put in inside the box by the Bagan midfield.
He scored against TRAU and will be high in confidence for the high voltage Derby.
Wildcard: Subho Ghosh
One man who will be in focus for the Bengali media is young Bengali forward Subho Ghosh.
The 19 year old boy has been promoted up the ranks and backed by coach Kibu Vicuña and has been performing excellent with the limited opportunities he has got.
With 2 goals in the I-League already, the Bagan startlet will surely be looking upto his first senior Kolkata Derby experience.
